<p>A new year means an increase in benefit and credit payments from the Government of Canada.</p>
<p>Since 2018, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has used a process called indexation to adjust benefit and credit payments to keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living.</p>
<p>In 2026, the <a href="https://dailyhive.com/canada/canada-income-tax-bracket-2026" target="_blank">indexation increase will be two per cent</a>, which means some benefit and credit payments will increase by that amount. In comparison, it will be a lower hike than the 2.7 per cent increase in 2025.</p>
<p>The maximum benefits and the income thresholds are indexed annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).</p>
<p>&#8220;Increases in amounts for certain income-tested benefits like the goods and services tax credit, the Canada child benefit, and child disability benefit, take effect on July 1 to coincide with the beginning of the program year for payments of these benefits,&#8221; explains the CRA.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how much certain <a href="https://dailyhive.com/canada/canada-benefit-credit-dates-dec-2025" target="_blank">benefit and credit payments</a> will increase in Canada in 2026.</p>
<h2>GST/HST credit</h2>

<p>The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment based on Canadians&#8217; adjusted family net income, marital status, and the number of eligible children under 19 a person has registered for the Canada Child Benefit, GST/HST credit, or both.</p>
<p>According to the CRA, the adult maximum will be $356 in 2026, up from $349 in 2025. The child&#8217;s maximum will be $187 in 2026, up from $184 in 2025, and the single supplement will be the same amount.</p>
<p>Based on the two per cent indexation increase, in 2026, Canadians could get up to:</p>

<li>$544 if you&#8217;re single</li>
<li>$712 if you&#8217;re married or have a common-law partner</li>
<li>$187 for each child under the age of 19</li>
</ul>
<h2>Canada Child Benefit</h2>

<p>The CCB is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families to help with the cost of raising kids under the age of 18.</p>
<p>According to the CRA, the base benefit for a child under age six in 2026 will be $8,157, an increase of $160 from $7,997 in 2025. The base benefit for children aged six to 17 will be $6,883 next year, up $135 from $6,748 this year.</p>
<h2>Child Disability Benefit</h2>

<p>The CDB is a tax-free monthly payment for families who care for children under the age of 18 with a &#8220;severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to the CRA, based on the two per cent indexation increase, the maximum benefit amount in 2026 will be $3,480, which is a $69 increase from $3,411 in 2025.</p>
<h2>Federal Canada Workers Benefit</h2>
<p>The CWB is a refundable tax credit to help low-income individuals and families. It has two parts: a basic amount and a disability supplement.</p>
<p>According to the CRA, the maximum benefit for single individuals with no children will be $1,665 in 2026. That&#8217;s a $32 increase from $1,633 in 2025.</p>
<p>The maximum benefit for families will be $2,869 in 2026, up $56 from $2,813 in 2025.</p>
<p>The CWB disability maximum supplement will increase by $17 from $843 to $860 in 2026.</p>
