How a free Vancouver holiday market this month is helping to change lives
“This year’s theme celebrates community and collective action – what can happen when a community shows up for one another, and uplifts and empowers each other to tap into and unlock the strengths that have always been within,” said Charissa, brand and marketing lead for Employ to Empower, to Daily Hive.
“Every entrepreneur featured at this market has overcome a significant challenge in their life to get here – and we’re in such awe to see them pour their love into a business that brings them both pride and purpose. We are so excited for them to share their businesses with the broader community and to be celebrated for the incredible people they are.”

Employ to Empower
Employ to Empower is a Vancouver charity that uses entrepreneurship to empower low-income communities to overcome barriers to employment. Over 400 people have taken its program since 2018, overcoming mental or physical health challenges, disability, and recovery from addiction, with an average completion rate of 87 per cent.
The free Make Change Market will showcase a wide variety of gift ideas, including artisan soaps, jewelry, workshops, peer support counselling, beauty services, and more.

Someone will even win a round-trip flight with Helijet between Vancouver and Nanaimo valued at $1,000 at the holiday market.
“Our entrepreneurs have worked tirelessly to prepare for this event, and we want to fill the market with the energy and encouragement they deserve,” added Vivian, entrepreneur engagement lead.

Employ to Empower
“This event is happening on Nov. 20 (during Global Entrepreneurship Week) in hopes that our community can come together to support local small businesses in our Vancouver community.”
