Connor Ingram celebrated his 29th birthday with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night.
The Saskatchewan native turned aside all 27 shots that he faced to help the Edmonton Oilers capture their fourth-straight victory. It was a unique feat for Ingram, who became the first goalie in Oilers history to record a shutout on his birthday.
He now has two shutouts on the season and nine in his career, and he caught up with Sportsnet&#8217;s Gene Principe after the game, where he got a bit existential about the situation.
&#8220;I&#8217;m getting old. I found a couple of grey hairs in my beard recently. Life comes at you fast, eh?&#8221; Ingram said with a smile. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been through a lot in my life already. I&#8217;m probably an old 29, I feel like at least. It&#8217;s good, and just keep learning life lessons.&#8221;

Ingram has had quite a season with the Oilers. He started the year not even getting an invite to the Utah Mammoths training camp before <a href="https://dailyhive.com/edmonton/oilers-trade-mammoth-connor-ingram-goalie" target="_blank">being traded to Edmonton</a> and starting the season in the AHL. Injuries then forced the team to call him up in December, and he has been in the NHL ever since.
Not only that, he&#8217;s become the Oilers&#8217; starting goaltender, outplaying Tristan Jarry for the job over the last few months. Ingram now has a <a href="https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=172859" target="_blank">14-8-2 record</a> and a .898 save percentage in Edmonton this season and is expected to be the team&#8217;s playoff starter.
It wasn&#8217;t just Ingram&#8217;s heroics that secured the shutout, but also the Oilers&#8217; stellar defensive play, which has been on a steady rise in recent weeks. Ingram made sure to point out that the team in front of him helped out quite a bit.
&#8220;Did I really do anything?&#8221; Ingram joked. &#8220;I saw [the shots], they made my job pretty easy.&#8221;
This is just the first four-game winning streak of the season for the Oilers. They were the second-last team without a streak that long, and now leave the Philadelphia Flyers as the only remaining NHL club without a four-game heater.
Ingram and Edmonton are catching fire at the right time, and the hope is that they can put their best foot forward when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin later this month.
