Although Club Monaco was a two-storey store, the complete JD Sports makeover of the space has transformed the building into one floor of retail on the ground level, and the second level for staff-only access for storage purposes. Altogether, JD Sports has nearly 10,000 sq. ft. of space in the building.

The company has over 3,400 stores worldwide across 38 countries, with plans to open up to 300 additional stores annually over a five-year period starting in 2024.

Within the Lower Mainland of B.C., JD Sports now has seven locations, beginning with Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, which opened in early 2022 — the chain’s second store in Canada.

This was followed by the opening of additional locations at CF Richmond Centre in May 2023, Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley Township in May 2024, Tsawwassen Mills in September 2024, Metropolis at Metrotown mall in Burnaby in December 2024, and Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford in February 2025.

The opening of JD Sports at 1042 Robson St. now cements the intersection of Robson and Burrard streets as a new hub for athleisure wear retail in the city, following the January 2023 opening of Gap’s Athleta at 1035 Robson St., the November 2024 opening of the 35,000 sq. ft. flagship Adidas store at 969 Robson St., and the anticipated Summer 2025 opening of the new expanded and replacement Arc’teryx flagship store at 1001 Robson St. — replacing Roots’ previous longtime location.

This summer, Roots will also open a new, expanded and replacement flagship store at 919 Robson St., replacing the former Peloton showroom.
