Adam Foote met the media Thursday morning, as he was introduced as the 22nd head coach in Vancouver Canucks history.
It was pretty standard stuff, <a href="https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-coach-foote-question-son-trial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">for the most part</a>, as he <a href="https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/5-things-learned-foote-canucks-press-conference" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlined his plans for the team</a>.
But Foote also brought up a unique and obscure part of Canucks lore.
It&#8217;s been 11 years since John Tortorella last coached the Vancouver Canucks, but it seems his impact is still being felt at Rogers Arena. I&#8217;m not talking about the time he tried to fight Bob Hartley in the hallway, benching Roberto Luongo, or contributing to Ryan Kesler leaving the team.
No, I&#8217;m talking about the legendary Canucks Murphy bed.

The late Jason Botchford revealed in 2014 that a Murphy bed had been installed in Tortorella&#8217;s office.
It was Mike Gillis&#8217; idea, in response to Tortorella continually skipping game-day skates because he needed an afternoon nap. Tortorella lived in Point Roberts, and it seems the commute didn&#8217;t allow enough nap time.
&#8220;Management and Tortorella knocked heads over all kinds of issues, but when the coach started going home every day, skipping out on game-day skates, it drove the organization bananas,&#8221; <a href="https://vancouversun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/jason-botchford-john-tortorellas-top-10-canucs-moments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Botchford said in a 2014 article in The Province</a>.
&#8220;So much so, they built a Murphy bed in his office. If he needed an afternoon nap, the coach could now take it at Rogers Arena.&#8221;
Five coaches later, and it seems the bed is still there.
But maybe not for long.
&#8220;I&#8217;m trying to figure out how to get [rid of] that Murphy bed, I know Tocc didn&#8217;t bring it in his office, but I heard someone did,&#8221; Foote told reporters, unprompted, at today&#8217;s press conference.
&#8220;But that&#8217;s my first thing on the docket, get rid of that,&#8221; he joked.
