“Yeah, let’s not bring that to Texas,” Myers replied promptly. “That’s my worst nickname, doesn’t even flow.”
When asked about what his former WHL teammate Jamie Benn called him, Myers simply said “Mysie.”
He did say that Benn had a second nickname for him as well.
“We had a weird thing in Kelowna, 17 years ago now, everybody calls each other by their dad’s name, and he’s bringing that back a bit,” Myers said.
Myers’ dad’s name is Paul Myers III.
Benn did speak recently about his recruitment mission on selling the Stars to Myers.
“Yeah, we’ve always kept in touch,” Benn said on the Stars television broadcast after their win Tuesday.
“Obviously, I’m gonna brag about how good it is down here, and what a great group of guys we have, and, you know, weather and fans, and taxes,” he said.
“So, it wasn’t that hard.”
Myers reflected on coming back to Texas, making him the first player born in the state to suit up for Dallas.
“I still remember where I was in ’99 when the goal was scored,” Myers said. He would have been nine years old at the time.
“To have a chance to come back to Texas, be close to some family and be on a team like this, I feel very grateful,” he said.
“I just wanna keep building with this group because it’s a great team.”
The Stars have won both games with Myers in the lineup. His workload has decreased significantly compared to his time with the Canucks, as he’s played under 14 minutes per night in both his games with Dallas so far.
