Fans raise thousands for Vancouver memorial to honour Chinese superstar
Menglong was an award-winning actor in hit shows like Go Princess Go, Eternal Love, and Legend of the White Snake.
He was also a finalist on the reality TV singing competition, Super Boy, and released two albums, Toy and Yu Meng Long.
The Ürümqi-born star died on Sept. 11, 2025, in what local police described as an accidental fall from a Beijing building due to intoxication. However, the cause of his death is still being debated by people online.
“His death drew widespread public attention in China, particularly as discussions about the case were subject to online restrictions,” said SL. “While official statements concluded that his death was an accidental fall, the limited availability of public information has left many fans and observers with questions and concerns.”
SL added that they were inspired to start a fundraiser to dedicate a Vancouver bench to Menglong after seeing someone in the United Kingdom create a similar public memorial.

As of press time, SL’s GoFundMe has raised over $4,300, which is 80 per cent of the target goal of $5,500.
“The bench is intended as a place to remember Yu Menglong and to keep his story alive,” the fundraiser organizer added. “Funds raised will be used to commission and install a memorial bench in a public park in British Columbia, Canada, for a period of 10 years, with the option to renew at the end of that term.
“Thank you for supporting this memorial, for sharing this story, and for helping honour Yu Menglong’s memory in a meaningful and public way.”

The new report by the online crowdfunding platform has revealed the most giving cities in the country, as calculated by charitable donations per capita.
B.C. locations took four of the top five spots on the list, with Vancouver landing at number three.
