8 of the best things we ate in and around Vancouver in February

Another month has gone by in the blink of an eye, and that has us reflecting on all of the best food and drinks we’ve been able to enjoy over the last 28 days in Vancouver.
But looking back on all the good eats we’ve had, some dishes stood out among the rest.
That’s why we compiled a list of some of the top bites that we enjoyed in the month of February. From sushi martinis to mouthwatering French toast, here are our picks for the best meals we enjoyed in and around Vancouver this month.
Roast Duck Pancake — Fable Diner

Marco Ovies/Dished
If it’s good enough for Guy Fieri, it’s definitely good enough for us.
Among the many delicious offerings on Fable Diner’s Prohibition Brunch deal (which includes two drinks, a fresh-baked savoury item, a choice of brunch item, and a sweet treat all for $30) is the Roast Duck Pancake, one of the dishes featured on Fable Diner’s appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
This cornmeal pancake is topped with roast duck, housemade kimchi, green onions, duck mayo, cilantro, and some crispy business.

Terrine chaude de homard — St. Lawrence Restaurant

Marco Ovies/Dished
While it’s hard to choose a favourite from St. Lawrence’s current Cabine à Sucre menu (on now until March 29), this lobster and scallop terrine with bisque was all we could think about after our meal.
The seafood was perfectly cooked, and the buttery bisque was the perfect accompaniment. The flavours of the seafood really shone through (especially since we couldn’t help ourselves and topped it with a little caviar for good measure).

Strawberry and Pistachio French Toast — Loam Bistro

Marco Ovies/Dished
Loam Bistro is quickly becoming a superstar in Metro Vancouver’s brunch scene, with heavy hitters like this Strawberry and Pistachio French Toast. If you’re a fan of pistachios, you’ll definitely love this as the flavour of the nut really came through in the sauce. Plus, this thick slab might be our new favourite type of bread for French toast.
If you visit, do yourself a favour and enjoy some of the savoury options and split this decadent sweet treat with a pal after your meal. Recommendations on the savoury side of things include its Bone Marrow Omelette, Truffle Omelette, and Lobster Tarragon Benedict.

Classic Burger — Aureliana

Marco Ovies/Dished
While it may be hard to stray away from the all-day breakfast offerings at Aureliana (those pancakes are dangerously good), we do have to recommend you try one of its burgers at least once.
We opted for the Classic, a simple beef chuck patty topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions, and house mayo. This no-nonsense burger is the perfect level of saucy, and made us want to go back and try the rest of its burger offerings (including its Luna burger, which includes a hot dog).

Candy Cap Mushroom Crème Brûlée — Five Sails x Restaurant Tanière³ Collaborative Dinner

Marco Ovies/Dished
For two nights only, chef and owner of the two-Michelin-star Quebec restaurant Tanière³, François-Emmanuel Nicol, joined Vancouver’s Five Sails culinary director, Alex Kim, for a collaborative dinner that was the stuff of dreams.
Among the many courses served during the night (including an oyster served on an edible shell), the dish that left our whole table stunned was this Candy Cap Mushroom Crème Brûlée topped with a healthy serving of kaluga caviar. Sweet and salty joined forces for a dessert so good it might be worth flying to Quebec just on the offchance Nicol serves it again.

Strawberry Matcha — Hada Coffee

Marco Ovies/Dished
It’s no secret that we’ve fallen hard for the matcha craze that has taken Vancouver by storm, and Hada is one of our favourite spots for the beverage.
Hada has operated numerous pop-ups throughout South Surrey and White Rock, with its most recent pop-up being at Spinhouse South Surrey. Plus, the team is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar soon. Do yourself a favour and give the cafe a follow on Instagram to be the first to know when it opens its doors.
Thor! Detroit-Style Pizza — AJ’s Brooklyn Pizza Shop

Marco Ovies/Dished
AJ’s Brooklyn Pizza Joint is one of the most recommended spots for a slice in the city, and for good reason. Recently, we had a chance to stop by its new Tsawwassen location (located inside a water park) to refamiliarize ourselves with just how darn good this pizza is.
If you haven’t had a chance to try one of AJs Detroit-style pizzas, do yourself a favour and get down there sooner than later. After its recent shoutout by none other than Hudson Williams, we anticipate that it’ll be busier than ever.

Hokkaido Uni Sushitini — SYU Kitsilano

Marco Ovies/Dished
Technically, we had stopped at SYU Kitsilano at the end of January on the same day we had published our last list, but this Sushitini was so we decided to fudge the rules and include it in our February roundup.
As the name implies, this martini glass is filled with sushi rice and topped with a chef’s assortment of marinated seafood, including Hokkaido uni. Not only is the presentation fun, but the actual dish was phenomenal (talk about a perfect combo).
