North America's first Hot Pot for Pets announces sudden closure in Richmond

One of Metro Vancouver’s newest destinations for animal lovers has announced that it will soon be closing its Hot Pot for pets just two months after its grand opening.
Chew Chew shared the news on Instagram over the Thanksgiving long weekend that it will close its Richmond location on Sunday, Oct. 26.
“After an incredible chapter filled with wagging tails, laughter and love, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Chew Chew,” the announcement said.

North America’s first pet restaurant exclusively for dogs and cats, co-founded by Suiki Zhang and Justin Tang, is located in Steveston at 115-3800 Chatham St.
The full-sensory experience allows pets to explore the sniff zone to stimulate curiosity, play with paw-friendly buttons, and listen to dog-friendly music in the background while they eat their freshly prepared meals.
Chew Chew also offers takeout, meal plans and delivery, and handcrafted snacks, all with human-grade ingredients.
The owners shared that the Hot Pot for pets has been a labour of love, one built on “heart, risk, and belief.”

“While it hasn’t been easy to sustain, we’ll always be proud that Chew Chew sparked conversations, spy creativity, and proved that dreams built from love and dogs are worth chasing.”
Fans on Instagram thanked Chew Chew for their hospitality and wished them the best in their next adventures.
“Thank you for creating such a fun experience for our furry friends,” said one person. “We were delighted to have visited your truly wonderful establishment. All the best.”
“Most people don’t follow their passions or have the courage to start a business or do anything innovative, so you should be proud of yourselves,” added another. “We’re sure you learned a lot. Good luck in your next chapter.”
Chew Chew shared a message of gratitude to its supporters and added that it was open to discussing the possibility of someone else taking over the business and carrying it forward.
