4.5 magnitude earthquake rattles parts of Alberta

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck central Alberta on Wednesday evening, with no record of it causing damage.

The earthquake, which was registered at 4.5 magnitude, was located 18 km northeast of Morinville, 28 km northwest of Fort Saskatchewan, and 42 km north of Edmonton and struck at a depth of five kilometres.

Earthquakes Canada added that the quake occurred just before 5:30 p.m.

The federal agency added that the earthquake was lightly felt in Gibbons, Legal, Bon Accord, and Edmonton.

Alberta is no stranger to earthquakes, including a 5.8 magnitude earthquake back in November 2022 and a 5.0 magnitude quake in March 2023.
