Ex-Toronto Blue Jays pitcher calls out Sid Seixeiro: 'Take the mic away from this clown'

Erik Swanson wasn’t on the Toronto Blue Jays roster for the World Series run, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he won’t stand up for his teammates.

On Sid Seixeiro’s new self-titled podcast, the sports broadcasting personality brought up the idea of the Blue Jays raising an American League pennant banner, something they’ll assuredly do when their 2026 MLB season gets underway on Friday.

It will be the first time in over 30 years that the Blue Jays have been able to celebrate such an accomplishment.

But of course, there’s always someone willing to poo-poo on a good time.

Enter, Seixeiro.

“Part of it bothers me,” Seixeiro said when referring to the Blue Jays raising a banner for winning the American League.

“What I’m saying is, just put it up and let it sit, and it’s part of your history,” he said. “To acknowledge it like that was the goal is incorrect for me.”

It was a take that caught the attention of former Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson.

“Someone take the mic away from this clown,” Swanson replied.

Although he wasn’t on the roster by the time they made the World Series, Swanson did pitch for parts of the last three seasons in Toronto.

He began last season on the injured list and struggled in six games pitched before being released in late June. Swanson officially announced his retirement back in November.

However, the 32-year-old pitcher was in the clubhouse with key Blue Jays players, such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt.

Many fans online seemed to agree with Swanson’s criticism of Seixeiro.

“To not acknowledge and celebrate what last year’s Jays team did would be immensely disrespectful to everyone who had a part in it,” one fan said.

Others tried to explain why Seixeiro still had a mic.

“They’ve tried Erik, but he keeps popping up somewhere else. Kind of like wack-a-mole,” another fan replied.

There were some who applauded Swanson for his swift criticism of Seixeiro.

“That’s my f*cking GOAT, love you, Swanson,” one fan wrote.

Do you think Seixeiro has a point? Should the Blue Jays just raise a banner with nothing more than a quiet acknowledgement? Or are Swanson and other fans ripping on Seixeiro justified in their take?

If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that it didn’t take Seixeiro long to enrage people with his return to the airwaves.
