All 100 vendors participating in the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival — and 5 we can't wait to try

January in Vancouver is known for many things: the return of Dine Out Vancouver, rainy and gloomy weather, and, perhaps most excitingly, the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival.
Taking place from Jan. 17 to Feb. 14, 100 vendors in the Greater Vancouver area will be serving up tasty and unique hot chocolate creations. There will be 100 participating vendors and a whopping total of 234 different flavours to try.
Previous years saw plenty of wacky and wonderful drinks like a hot chocolate with marinara sauce and Hot Cheetos, a Dragon Ball Z-themed drink, and even some hot chocolates that are illegal south of the border.
Which spot will you be checking out first? Be sure to let us know in the comments. Otherwise, here are some of the hot chocolates we’re excited to try, plus the list of participating vendors at the Great Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival.
Brie My Swiss Valentine — A La Mode Pie Café
Molten brie and Swiss are mixed with hot, bitter-sweet cocoa, topped with torched cheddar brûlée and passion-mango marshmallow. Essentially, this is the combination of chocolate and cheese fondue we didn’t know we needed.
To top it all off, this hot chocolate is paired with a Pear Brûlée Blue Cheese Tart, which comes with a caramelized pear over whipped blue cheese infused with cinnamon and candied ginger bits on flaky puff pastry.
When: Jan. 30 to Feb. 14
Where: 1689 Johnston St. #575, Vancouver
Chicken and Waffle. And Hot Chocolate — Bonus Bakery
How do you make a chicken and waffle slider better? Pair it with a hot chocolate, of course. This hot chocolate features a mini chicken and waffle sandwich with pickle and spicy mayo, with a side of a maple-forward hot chocolate (no mayo in that one). Also, this one is entirely vegan and dairy-free.
When: Jan. 17 to Feb. 14
Where: 1428 Vernon Dr., Vancouver
I Choose You! — Cadeaux Bakery
For the Pokémon fans out there, this Oran Berry-inspired drink comes straight out of the world of pocket monsters. White chocolate is infused with lemon and blueberry, and then topped with Chantilly and Poké-inspired decor.
Plus, this drink comes with your choice of starter Pokémon, a.k.a. what flavour of mcaron you get as your side. Play a gacha and find out if you’ll get Grass (lemongrass and lime), Water (honeyed currant and sea salt) or Fire (orange peppercorn).
When: Feb. 3 to 14
Where: 172 Powell St., Vancouver
Pina Cocoalada Hot Chocolate — Little Pisces
Enjoy an escape to somewhere more tropical with this pineapple flavourite hot chocolate (available with dairy or oat milk) and topped with a generous amount of torched marshmallow fluff.
Plus, it wouldn’t be a trip to Little Pisces without some taiyakis, and you’ll enjoy two mini Nutella taiyakis on a skewer with your drink (perfect for dipping).
When: Jan. 17 to Feb. 14
Where: 4501 North Rd. #202b, Burnaby or 8531 Alexandra Rd. #128, Richmond
Bak’d Birthday Brownie — Bak’d Cookies
Bak’ed Cookies participated in the festival last year and saw some huge lines of hungry fans wanting to get their hands on some hot chocolate, so we expect the same kind of hype this year.
This time, Bak’d is offering a sweet and salty caramel dark hot chocolate, topped with salted caramel whip cream and caramel and completed with a dark chocolate Skor rim and a sprinkling of flaky sea salt.
If that didn’t sound exciting enough, it’s also served with an ooey gooey 3-oz Salted Caramel Brownie Cookie.
When: Jan. 17 to Feb. 14
Where: 285 Nelson’s Ct., New Westminster
