Becoming a multimillionaire overnight sounds like a dream, but for one Canadian lottery player, that just became a reality after winning the Lotto 6/49 jackpot.

The lottery draw took place on Wednesday, March 11, and the Gold Ball Prize winning numbers were 51022818-01. According to PlayNow, someone matched the numbers, thereby instantly winning the $44-million Lotto 6/49 jackpot. The winner purchased their life-changing ticket in Ontario.

“Because the ticket was bought online, the winner has already received an email letting them know they’ve won the $44-million prize,” reads a statement from OLG. “Congratulations to the winner of this life-changing jackpot! We look forward to meeting Ontario’s next multimillionaire when they come forward.”

No one won the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw prize worth $5 million, or the second prize worth $161,284.10. However, 96 lottery players across Canada will split the third prize, with each of them walking away with their share worth $705.50.

In B.C., two tickets matched the Lotto 6/49 Extra winning numbers 21, 29, 58, and 84. The tickets were sold online and in Valemount, and according to PlayNow.com, each winner will receive the full amount of $500,000. A lottery player in Ontario also became $1 million richer after they matched the Encore winning numbers 0332098.

The last time someone won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot was on Jan. 7, when Cora Cuthbert from Kisbey, Sask., won the $18 million prize. The home-care aide said she’s ready for retirement.

“I’m retiring, finally!” she said.

The Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot has now reset to $10 million, and the next draw is on Saturday, March 14.
