“A motorist parked his vehicle in the 2600 Block of St. Johns Street, then briefly stepped out when an unknown man wearing a white hoodie entered the idling SUV,” Port Moody Police said in a statement.
“The suspect then fled in the vehicle westbound with the victim’s pet dog onboard.”
The victim helped police track the vehicle to South Coquitlam, where officers located the blue Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle was unoccupied.

Thankfully, the dog was discovered safe and sound.
“It is believed the dog was abandoned in the same area of Coquitlam, as a Good Samaritan located the dog on a busy road and brought it to a nearby animal hospital,” Port Moody Police said in a release.
“Fortunately, the dog was unharmed from the incident and has since been reunited with her family.”
The Port Moody Police Department has seized the vehicle for forensic examination and is hoping to speak with witnesses as it works to identify the suspect.
This isn’t the first time a vehicle has been stolen with a pet dog inside it in Metro Vancouver. Last winter, a car was stolen with a “beloved pet” in the backseat of a Fiat 500 Sport in New Westminster.
Thankfully, that story had a mostly happy ending.
Good news! Zoey the Boarder Collie was found by a kindhearted commuter. The car has not been recovered. If you see a 2012 black Fiat 500 Sport license plate is TT2 51D please call 9-1-1 immediately. #NewWest https://t.co/Vwnl4HlTof
