Richmond’s Cherry Blossom Festival returns for a day full of springtime joy

Get ready for a day of flowers, culture, and fun! The Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival returns on Sunday, April 12, where two large tents at Garry Point Park will be bursting with colour, creativity, and celebration. The festival highlights the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms alongside the rich cultural traditions of Japan.
This year’s theme is ありがとう Arigatō (or “thank you”), a warm nod to the community that helps the festival flourish each year.
Here’s what to expect!
Culture and hands-on fun take centre stage
Inside the Hanami and Sakura Tent, visitors can enjoy a lineup of cultural performances, including Vancouver Okinawa Taiko Group, Tatsumi Japanese Dancers, Steveston Minyo, and traditional Shamisen and Taiko performances.
There’s also plenty to explore off-stage, like a tea ceremony (Chadō), a senior’s craft display, and demonstrations including sakura art, calligraphy, and flower arranging (Ikebana).
And for little festival-goers, the Chibi Chan Tent is full of fun activities where kids can fold their own origami flowers and windmills.
A taste of Japan
Don’t forget the food! Treat your taste buds to Japanese favourites, including fresh bites from local favourite Takeya Sushi.
As part of the Cherry Blossom Festival, you can explore three stunning walks at your own pace while the blossoms are in full bloom. Whether you want to take a peaceful stroll or snap some serious Insta-worthy photos, this is one of the best places in Metro Vancouver to do so.
