Vancouver’s Lunar New Year Parade will be extra colourful this weekend thanks to a fiery addition to the TransLink fleet.

TransLink has unveiled this year’s Lunar New Year bus commemorating the Year of the Fire Horse.

You can find the art-wrapped bus at the 52nd Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade on Sunday, Feb. 22.

“Lunar New Year is celebrated across many cultures, and it’s a time for renewal, reflection, and coming together,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn in a release.

“The Chinatown Spring Festival Parade is a chance to celebrate that spirit, and we love to support the journeys people make to be there with family, friends, and community.”

TransLink‘s Lunar New Year bus is emblazoned with six fire horses that represent strength, energy, and forward momentum.

“The horses reflect the spirit of progress and connection that carries our communities into the new year with confidence and optimism,” added TransLink in a statement.

Taking transit to the 52nd Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade is a good idea as the popular event is expected to draw over 5,000 participants and 100,000 spectators. There are also numerous road closures in the neighbourhood throughout the day.

Attendees can catch the 1.3 km parade at 11 a.m. at the Millennium Gate on Pender Street (between Shanghai Alley and Taylor Street). The procession, featuring a wide array of cultural groups, will wind its way east along Pender Street and then turn south onto Gore Street.

The colourful parade will turn west onto Keefer Street and then disperse at the intersection of Keefer and Carrall. The entire event is estimated to take about three hours.
