Vancouver was voted as one of the best food cities in the world

CondƩ Nast Traveler recently conducted a reader survey, garnering 757,109 votes, asking its readers where the best food cities in the world are, and Vancouver landed pretty high on the list.

The publication released the top 15 cities that made the list, including heavy-hitters like Phnom Penh (ranked 14th), Madrid (ranked 10th), and Tokyo (ranked 4th).

However, some may be surprised that Vancouver landed at number 3 on the list.

“There’s a lot to love about Vancouver: sunsets from the seat of your kayak, a vibrant arts scene, and some of the best East Asian cooking outside of East Asia,” wroteĀ CondĆ© Nast.Ā “Pacific salmon are plentiful, and chances are there’s a sushi restaurant near wherever you’re staying that rivals some of the world’s finest. You’ll find top-notch dim sum, West Coast oysters, and thriving craft beer markets to match.”

The publication also gave a shoutout to Vancouver’s food truck scene, calling it “central to the city’s identity.” Among the food trucks mentioned,Ā CondĆ© Nast gave a special shoutout to two spots.

Ā JapadogĀ has been around since 2005, serving up its Japanese take on hot dogs. Since then, it has operated multiple brick-and-mortar locations throughout Metro Vancouver, as well as multiple food carts.

Its most popular hot dog is the terimayo, which is a dog served with teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, fried onions, and seaweed. However, on its website, it lists over 34 varieties available.

Japadog is also well known for its Shaked Fries, so much so that it made our reader-recommended list ofĀ best fries in Vancouver.

The other food truck mentioned was Aperitivo, a full bar on wheels serving Italian drinks and vegan charcuterie platters.

This concept-on-wheels is brought to us by Kelly and Yasmin McKenzie, who are known for operating Melt City, Mom’s Grilled Cheese, and Green Coast Coffee food trucks.

What’s even cooler is that the vintage van used for Aperitivo runs on a solar-powered lithium battery bank.

As for who beat Vancouver for the top two spots, Montreal landed itself second, and Kyoto took the number one spot.
