A historic Vancouver home recently listed for sale has some historic and sweet ties to the province.

A listing from Dexter Realty calls the home a “once-in-a-generation” offering, and it has been listed for $12,800,000.

The listing also says the home, designed by Cuddon Palmer, spans over 13,000 sq. ft. on 2.5 acres of land along SW Marine Drive.

This home features a strong connection to B.C. history, as the listing states the home was built for the Rogers Sugar family.

“A rare blend of history, scale, and enduring craftsmanship, the home showcases grand principal rooms, soaring ceilings, rich wood detailing, and timeless architectural character.”

Benjamin Tingley Rogers founded the British Columbia Sugar Refining Company in Vancouver in 1890. The home was built 30 years later in 1920, so it’s now 106 years old.

The home features an amenity we’ve rarely heard of in Vancouver homes, a full-sized squash court, which is being used for other purposes in the listing’s staging of the home.

The listing suggests the new owner has flexibility on the future vision of the home, calling it, “A true legacy property with remarkable potential to thoughtfully modernize or reimagine for multi-generational living.”

The home also features a pool house next to the outdoor swimming pool.

“An extraordinary opportunity to steward one of Vancouver’s most distinguished estates into its next chapter,” the listing adds.

The home was previously listed for $12,890,000, so the current listing has shaved off $90,000. It was most recently assessed at $11,360,000.

Vancouver Heritage Site Finder has more information about the history of the home, which it calls the Knole House.

“Blythe D. Rogers from the sugar magnate family and his architect wife, Alix, commissioned the house in 1919. It was designed by Bernard Cuddon Palmer, a well-known architect,” the website states.
