Vancouver hotel prices see wild spike during FIFA World Cup

Vancouver is officially under 100 days away from the FIFA World Cup, and if you’re coming to the city for it and haven’t booked accommodations yet, the hotel prices might make your head spin like a soccer ball.

Based on a quick look at rates on the travel agency Expedia, there’s a notable spike in prices when comparing dates this spring versus FIFA World Cup 2026 dates.

FIFA will be in town between June 11 and July 19, and booking at any point in that window shows quite the spike compared to dates before that period at the same hotels.

Some of the biggest matches Vancouver spectators will be able to watch will be in July, so we’ve looked at how much it’ll cost you to stay in Vancouver during that period of the FIFA World Cup, versus a random week in April.

These prices are from Expedia.ca and were recorded on March 6.

We’ve plugged in dates for July 1 to 9 and April 12 to 20.

A room at the OPUS Hotel Vancouver will run you around $426 per night in April.

The same hotel is listed for $1,723 per night between July 1 and 9, nearly $1,300 more per night.

The Pan Pacific Vancouver is also seeing a FIFA price spike for the same dates.

Some hotels are flat-out sold out in early July, like the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Even a hotel outside of the Vancouver area is seeing this sort of price hike during FIFA, including hotels in Richmond and Burnaby.

Hotel prices always fluctuate, so your mileage may vary and may not resemble these exact prices, depending on when you conduct your search.

If you’re planning on watching the Team Canada matchups in Vancouver in June, you can also expect a spike in prices.

“Travellers can expect even higher increases at Vancouver hotels across hotel types with rates three to eight times the cost around match dates (versus March 2026),” according to data from Hotels.com.

“Nearby Surrey is also seeing a notable 45 per cent spike in searches for accommodation around those dates,” Hotels.com adds.

The Hotels.com app offers price alerts in case you’re hoping to monitor changing prices.

One thing is for sure, though, particularly when noting that hotels are already sold out: Vancouver and the surrounding area are about to get a whole lot busier.

It’s not just FIFA that is going to contribute to the demand for hotels and business in the region.

FIFA isn’t the only thing contributing to a wild summer in 2026, as Vancouver is bracing for a record-breaking cruise ship season.

The season then truly kicks into high gear, with cruise ships arriving at Canada Place almost every day from May 1 to Oct. 4. Multiple ships will be in port on most days of this period.

There will be nine days when four ships are expected at Canada Place: May 23, June 21, July 4, July 5, July 9, July 15, July 23, July 26, and August 22.

The busiest day of the season will be July 25, when five ships are expected.

Many of those June and July dates coincide with the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is expecting a whopping 1.4 million passengers this season, surpassing a record 1.32 million in 2024 and 1.2 million in 2025.

Are you excited for the festivities this summer, or are you dreading them?
