Vancouver restaurant gets New Orleans makeover for TV shoot
If you’ve been in or around Yaletown in Vancouver the past couple of days, you may have noticed a fairly substantial production taking place, and it appears to be for a TV shoot.
Dozens of trucks and production vehicles were parked on and around Homer Street on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the timing of filming notices shared by the Yaletown BIA, combined with some reports that have been shared online and on social media, the production appears to be for an upcoming Disney series titled Coven Academy.
The new series, slated for release sometime this year, is described as a supernatural teen comedy-drama.
While Vancouver is often dressed up as American cities like Seattle, New Orleans isn’t as common.
“Teen witch apprentices band together to defend New Orleans against an approaching dark force,” the IMDb synopsis states.
It is expected to drop both on the Disney Channel and on Disney+.
Some of the stars cast for the show include Malachi Daniel Barton and iconic ’90s actress Tiffani Amber Thiessen, probably best known for her roles in Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills 90210.
Brix & Mortar on Homer Street has been temporarily rebranded to Lisette’s Bistro Creole for the shoot.

The Yaletown restaurant was first given a makeover earlier this month, on Jan. 6.
Today, production crews were stopping passersby on both sides of the street as the cameras were rolling. Background actors were packed into the rebranded Yaletown restaurant.

An Instagram post from the Yaletown BIA suggests the shoot was rescheduled from early January to this week.

Production is expected to wrap this spring.
Brix & Mortar calls itself “Yaletown’s dining house” and features modern cuisine, including some Creole flavours, which makes the New Orleans mask fitting.
