New grocery store to open in former London Drugs location
Many were shocked when the busy London Drugs in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood closed its doors last month after 40 years of operation. However, the space won’t be sitting empty for long as signs for a new supermarket have already popped up at the location.
88 Supermarket will be opening at the former London Drugs address at 3328 Kingsway, Vancouver.
The grocery store advertises itself as a Canadian-owned, “authentic Asian market” that offers Asian, Western, and Latino ingredients.
“Established in 2008, 88 Supermarket is home to one of the largest selections of ethnic foods in Greater Vancouver,” said the supermarket on its website. “We are dedicated and proud to offer food varieties from around the world as well as a large selection of local North American foods at very affordable prices.”
Currently, the grocery store operates two locations in Vancouver and one in Richmond.
An exact opening date for the new 88 Supermarket has yet to be announced.

The former London Drugs, which first opened in 1985, officially closed its doors on Feb. 2, 2026.
Clint Mahlman, President & Chief Operating Officer at London Drugs, told Daily Hive Urbanized that the “difficult decision” to close Store 28 at 3328 Kingsway occurred after careful consideration of multiple business factors.

“This decision was not made lightly,” said Mahlman in a statement. “It reflects ongoing challenges with the condition of the physical building and HVAC and landlord maintenance at this location, historic theft in the area, and a general downgrading of the neighbourhood business environment, which together have made this store unsustainable.
“London Drugs remains healthy and competitive across the Lower Mainland and Western Canada. Our focus is on strengthening nearby stores and enhancing customer service.”
