It may be spring in Alberta, but that isn’t stopping old man winter from making yet another appearance, with snow in the forecast for parts of the province.
A snowfall warning is currently in effect for the Alberta Rockies, stretching from Banff National Park up to Jasper National Park.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says that a long period of snowfall with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected. Snowfall will begin late tonight and continue through to Thursday morning, and total snowfall amounts could exceed 30 cm over at higher elevations.
“Travel will likely be challenging. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Road closures are possible. Allow extra time for travel,” the warning added.
Looking at the ECCC Significant Weather Outlook, other portions of Alberta are at risk of seeing some more snow starting on Tuesday, March 24.
Besides the snowfall expected from Banff to Jasper National Park, areas to the west and south of Grande Prairie may see 10 to 15 centimetres, along with areas south of Banff National Park.

ECCC Significant Weather Outlook
Turning to the outlook for Wednesday, March 25, more snow is on the way for the Alberta Rockies, some of the Foothills, and portions of northern Alberta, with the 10 to 15 centimetres risk stretching close to Edmonton and Calgary.
It’s also shaping up to be a windy one, with wind gusts in the 80 to 100 kilometres per hour range in southern Alberta, including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

ECCC Significant Weather Outlook
Sneaking a look at the major city centres in Alberta, the risk of snow over the next seven days is stronger for Edmonton, with a chance of flurries or rain showers today and tonight, with snow on tap for tomorrow, stretching to Wednesday, March 25.
