Amazon begins using nearly 600,000 sq. ft. of office space in The Post's North Tower

After a tenancy spanning just over a decade, Amazon is exiting its major presence at the Telus Garden office tower as part of its corporate strategy to consolidate and optimize its downtown Vancouver office spaces.
The company established its first major Vancouver corporate office presence at Telus Garden in 2015, when the tower was completed and opened.
Amazon’s lease for approximately 148,000 sq. ft. of office space at Telus Garden — representing just over a quarter of the tower’s total office space — will end in late June 2026, but the company will begin vacating the premises much earlier, before the end of this month.

Nearly 1,000 staff are currently based at Telus Garden, but they will not be going far, as most will relocate to the North Tower of The Post complex, located about one city block away.
That mass move from Telus Garden to The Post’s North Tower will take place on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The Post — the largest office building in Vancouver, with its 1.1 million sq. ft. of office space entirely leased to Amazon, plus about 185,000 sq. ft. of retail/restaurant space on its lower levels accessible from the Homer Street retail atrium — was completed in 2023.
Amazon began incrementally occupying office space within the South Tower in September 2023, following the staggered completion and furnishing of its office floors in this tower. By February 2024, the company had moved into the remaining floors of the 512,000 sq. ft. tower fronting West Georgia Street.
Almost exactly a year later, in September 2024, Amazon opened the two-storey atrium office space on levels seven and eight within the heritage base podium between the south and north towers — directly below the podium’s rooftop basketball court.
While Amazon’s move into the South Tower was very incremental over months, occupancy of most of the North Tower will occur almost overnight next week.
All staff at The Post will now have assigned office desks
The North Tower, fronting Dunsmuir Street, spans approximately 592,000 sq. ft. of office space. Amazon is leasing 18 floors of the 22-storey tower, with the lower levels used for retail/restaurant space, as well as a portion of the above-ground parkade.
While the purpose-designed interior office spaces on levels 16 to 20 have yet to be completed and will open in future years as expansion space, Amazon has finished the uppermost floors — levels 21 and 22 — as expansive amenity and collaboration areas featuring some of the best views of the city and surrounding area, just in time for the initial move-in.
All employees working at The Post — within both the north and south towers — will now have assigned desks, marking a complete transition away from the company’s previous worldwide practice of hotdesking during the years of semi-remote work policies emerging out of the pandemic. This shift aligns with Amazon’s global mandate requiring employees to return to the office five days a week starting in January 2025, up from three days per week beginning in May 2023.

Next week, the North Tower’s headcount will rise from zero to about 1,100, and is expected to grow further to approximately 1,400 by the end of 2026. This is in addition to the South Tower’s existing headcount of 2,400, with capacity to increase to 2,900 — a figure the North Tower can also likely similarly emulate at some point in the future.
In total, within downtown Vancouver, Amazon has more than 4,500 office-based corporate and technology staff. Other employees are based at the 2020-built Amazon YVR14 office tower at 402 Dunsmuir St., just across from The Post, and at Amazon YVR20 within the 2017-built The Exchange office tower at 475 Howe St.
Renewed focus on in-office amenities and collaborative work spaces
In addition to The Post’s traditional individual workspaces within an open concept environment, the North Tower has provided a wide range of supplemental spaces to support different work styles, including areas designed for collaboration, project-based work, and short-term team use, organized around team “neighbourhoods” tailored to each group’s needs.
With employees now returning full-time to the office, greater emphasis has been placed on providing a broad range of amenity spaces to support staff wellbeing at The Post.
Amazon spokesperson Kristin Gable told Daily Hive Urbanized that the North Tower’s interior design is based on lessons learned and employee feedback gathered over the past few years from working in the South Tower and the atrium. The company collaborated with B+H Architects, the lead interior designer for Amazon’s spaces across the entire complex.

The design is evolved compared to the company’s existing spaces, but remains thematically consistent with Amazon’s earlier spaces at The Post and the company’s newer offices elsewhere in the world. The North Tower features wood and industrial-inspired materials, curved walls and glass, and mid-century-inspired furniture. Moreover, there is superior sound insulation, curated original art, and over 2,000 real lush plants are dispersed across the completed floors of the tower.
“The launch of the North Tower at The Post has been highly anticipated, and marks a major milestone in the consolidation of Amazon’s corporate presence in downtown Vancouver,” Gable told Daily Hive Urbanized.
“Our real estate and design teams have leveraged learnings and observations since we moved in to the South Tower in 2023, and the North Tower puts a premium on collaboration and breakout spaces that reflect how our teams best work together to invent on behalf of customers. We’re immensely proud to offer such a great place to work, right in the heart of the city.”
The completed floors of the North Tower now feature more than 60 breakout and collaboration areas.
Level 22 includes flexible breakout spaces and a non-traditional conference room designed for a more relaxed meeting environment. Level 21 is dedicated to social and recreational amenities, including lounge areas and a pool table. Both levels also offer expansive outdoor spaces with panoramic views. Level 21 additionally features an outdoor rooftop dog run — one of several at The Post for Amazon staff — and a community garden.

AI-powered retail store for staff, and a second office restaurant
Another key area is level eight, which seamlessly expands the 2024-built atrium amenity space northward with more seating, a new cafeteria-style restaurant (the second cafe/restaurant for Amazon staff at The Post, joining the 2024-opened Georgia Cafe on the south side of the atrium), and a new artificial intelligence-powered Just Walk Out retail store.
This store’s checkout-free system uses cameras and sensors to track items picked up by staff. Employees tap a credit card onto entry gates and are automatically charged for the items upon passing through the exit gates. This is the first staff-only Just Walk Out store at Amazon’s Vancouver offices, but the technology is also increasingly being adopted around the world at stadiums, convention centres, airports, hospitals, general convenience stores, and university campuses, including a recently opened location at the University of British Columbia.
Level eight also includes an enhanced training room with a capacity of up to 170 people.
On level seven, a large multi-purpose space is designed for yoga, meditation, and light exercise. There is also a spa-like rejuvenation area with four enclosed wellness pods for rest and mental reset, featuring acoustic treatment, lighting controls, and privacy curtains. Additionally, this level includes a presentation theatre designed for content launches, digital presentations, and internal events.
The North Tower also provides The Post with an additional Amazon office lobby accessible from the southwest corner of the intersection of Dunsmuir and Hamilton streets, in addition to the South Tower’s office lobby at the northeast corner of West Georgia and Homer streets.

While Amazon’s move represents a short-term loss for Telus Garden, the critical mass of Amazon office employees will remain within the immediate area, and provide The Post with a big boost in vibrancy from the drastic increase in foot traffic that can now be expected at the building each weekday, benefiting its various retail, cafe, and restaurant businesses.
Amazon is also not the only major tech-oriented corporate tenant at The Post.
The new global headquarters office of Sony Pictures Imageworks — previously located at CF Pacific Centre above the former Nordstrom volume — recently opened within a 52,000 sq. ft. space on the third level of the building’s Homer Street retail atrium, just above the Loblaws City Market grocery store and on the same level as the Evolve Strength fitness gym.
Telus Health has leased the remaining 42,000 sq. ft. on the third level of the retail atrium. Both the Sony and Telus spaces were originally envisioned for large-format retail use.
In 2025, Vancouver-based QuadReal Property Group sold its flagship asset of The Post to Pontegadea Inversiones SL — the real estate and investment firm of Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, founder of fast fashion giant Zara. The deal was worth over $1 billion.
