There can’t possibly be a right or wrong time to win the lottery, but winning on April Fools’ Day just might make things a little tricky.

However, it was no joke — someone in Canada just won a multimillion-dollar prize during the lottery draw on Wednesday, April 1. The Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw winning numbers were 16, 24, 28, 34, 46, and 49, plus bonus 22. One lucky lottery player managed to match all six winning numbers to win the $5-million top prize. According to PlayNow, the ticket was sold somewhere in Quebec.

Although no one won the $226,514.50 second prize, 48 Canadians won the third prize, and each of them will soon take home $1,981.60.

At the time, the Gold Ball Prize stood at $20 million, but no one won the jackpot. However, one ticket matched the winning number 57590957-01 to win the $1-million White Ball prize. The ticket was purchased in Ontario.

In B.C., no one won the $500,000 Classic Draw Extra Prize, and similarly in Ontario, no one will be taking home the $1-million Encore prize.

On March 11, someone won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot after they matched the Gold Ball Prize winning number 51022818-01. The winner became an instant multimillionaire, scoring a $44-million prize. According to OLG, the life-changing ticket was sold online.

“A stunning $44-million Gold Ball Jackpot from the Wednesday, March 11, 2026, draw was won on a ticket purchased on olg.ca,” reads the release.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Saturday, April 4, and the Gold Ball prize is now worth $22 million.
