A lottery ticket that she got as a gift has given one Canadian woman a financial boost, helping bring her closer to becoming a homeowner.

Lottery player Taylor Scott is a 30-year-old fashion design student who lives in Brampton, Ont. She said she’s been playing the lottery on and off since she turned 18. Little did she know that a small gift would bring her closer to achieving her dreams when she received a $10 Instant 25 Days to Win ticket as a Christmas present.

“I received this ticket as a Christmas gift from my mom,” said Scott. “It had been sitting on my desk for a few days when I noticed it and got the feeling I should play it. I was working on a project at the time and thought, ‘I’ll scratch it later.’ As I continued working, I couldn’t shake the feeling, so I decided to finally play it — and what a shock!”

She was surprised to discover that she had won, but wasn’t quite sure how much at first.

“I told my partner that I won, but I didn’t know how much,” she said. “We checked the ticket together on the OLG app, and that’s when the screen lit up with a prize of $250,000! We were both in shock!”

Scott managed to beat the odds to win the game’s top prize worth $250,000. But even when she took her ticket to the store to have it validated, she recalled how it still didn’t feel real. She said it didn’t fully sink in until the clerk scanned the ticket, and she received a call from OLG.

She also immediately shared the news with her mom by sending her a photo of the ticket and validation slip.

“My mom is so excited and happy for me,” Scott stated.

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her cheque, she said she has several plans for her windfall: she wants to pay for her education, save for a wedding fund, launch a fashion business, and use it as a down payment for a home.

“It feels amazing to have won big,” she said.
