'Hasn’t been the same since COVID': Vancouver vegan restaurant to close this month

Following the closure of its Gastown location late last year, MeeT has announced that it will also be closing the doors to its Yaletown outpost.

“We realize this may come as a surprise to many of you, but we’ve made the difficult decision to close our 8-year-strong MeeT in Yaletown location,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram.

Located at 1165 Mainland St., Vancouver, Meet in Yaletown has been one of the main players in the local vegan food scene. It’s known for its selection of vegan comfort food classics like its fan-favourite Mac N’ Cheez Bowl.

As for the reason for the closure, the restaurant went on to list multiple reasons for ultimately shutting down its Yaletown outpost.

“The restaurant industry hasn’t been the same since COVID,” wrote MeeT. “While we’ve remained busy, the cost structure of the industry has changed dramatically. Food and labour costs continue to rise, while many people are dining out less often. Yaletown will always be a special place for us, but in this challenging economy, we also recognize that having multiple locations so close to each other presents challenges as we look toward the future. These changes mean it’s time to focus on our original location, MeeT on Main.”

That’s right, fans of the vegan restaurant are still in luck as the eatery shared that its location on Main Street is “absolutely remaining open.”

“Looking ahead at [Meet on Main], we’re planning expanded hours, refreshed menus, new feature programs, a brand new patio, and the potential addition of brunch,” added MeeT.

MeeT in Yaletown will officially close its doors on Saturday, March 28.

“If Yaletown has been part of your MeeT memories, we’d love to see you over the next couple of weeks before we say goodbye,” said MeeT. “Thank you for everything, Yaletown!”
