Rangers make Canucks look even worse after fulfilling promise to season ticket holders

As if the Vancouver Canucks needed another NHL team to make them look even worse.

The Canucks became the first team to officially be eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs earlier this week. They were recently joined by the New York Rangers, who were mathematically eliminated from contention after losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

While both teams have been utter disappointments, only one of the franchises received some good public relations with season ticket member renewals.

Mollie Walker of the New York Post reported on Thursday that the Rangers will not be raising season ticket prices for the 2026-27 season.

She added that this is a longstanding practice of the Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation. For the last 25 years, they reportedly have not raised season ticket prices when either the Rangers or the NBA’s New York Knicks miss the playoffs.

What a concept.

We reported earlier this week that some Canucks fans received their season ticket renewals. While at least one fan reported a small decrease, others noted that their season ticket prices have actually increased.

The Canucks took heat last season as well, when they jacked ticket prices even though they missed the playoffs.

Some fans have also been complaining about the significant increase in season ticket prices ever since the COVID-19 pandemic ended.

Other NHL teams have also gotten into the good graces of their fan base by lowering season ticket prices after a tough campaign. The Seattle Kraken recently dropped their prices for season ticket holders in consecutive seasons.

The Canucks did reportedly offer season ticket holders other perks in 2026-27, including increased flexibility to swap tickets for different games. There is also a food and beverage credit.

However, those benefits probably didn’t equate to the public relations win that the Rangers got on Thursday.

Although the Rangers and Canucks have been entangled in losing situations this season, New York appears to have bested Vancouver in terms of their upcoming season ticket strategy.
