Over 40 of the world’s best mountain films come to Vancouver starting next week

Springtime is just around the corner, and that means it’s the perfect time to get ready for outdoor adventures in Vancouver and beyond.
Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, which runs from Feb. 27 to March 11, is here to inspire you with dozens of films celebrating climbing, snow sports, mountain biking, and more.
This year’s events will be held at The Rio Theatre and Cinematheque in Vancouver, the Centennial Theatre and Capilano University Theatre, the West Vancouver Cricket Club, Kay Meek Art Centre on the North Shore, the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, and Howe Sound Brewing and the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish.
Guests will also hear from inspiring guest speakers and thought-provoking filmmakers from around the world in the thrilling lineup of films, presentations and workshops. Tickets are on sale now.

“We’re excited to bring VIMFF back to Vancouver, along with two shows in Squamish and two in Coquitlam, and celebrate our mountain-loving community for the 29th year in a row,” said VIMFF Program Director Ivan Hughes in a statement.
There are over 40 films and more than 20 in-person shows in VIMFF’s 2026 lineup, exploring important themes like the environment, Indigenous voices, pushing personal limits, and more.
The feature films and shorts will also be available for streaming online from March 14 to April 11.
VIMFF is also welcoming some of the world’s leading explorers, athletes, and creatives. Hear their unique experiences, take part in a variety of workshops, and more throughout the festival.

VIMFF 2026 will feature eight films making their first-ever public screening, spotlighting everything from thrilling expeditions to moving human stories.
Other highlights include Extreme Ascents at the Rio Theatre on March 7, with award-winning adventure filmmaker and mountaineer Elia Saikaly.
Saijaky has ten Everest expeditions under his belt, and will be sharing a look into the successes, tragedies, and resilience forged in one of the world’s most extreme environments.
Outdoor adventurers will also want to check out the Mountaineering Women program at The Cinematheque on March 2, 2026.
The program will highlight women who made alpine history with their endurance, ambition, and contributions. Canadian author and climber Joanna Croston will also be in conversation with acclaimed American climber Lynn Hill.
