Vancouver-based rice burger restaurant announces closure after nine years

Joining the lineup of restaurants announcing closures this year, Rice Burger took to Instagram to share that it will be closing after nine years of operation.
“It’s a sad day for Rice Burger,” wrote the restaurant. “After 9 amazing years of selling the good people our delicious Rice Burger we are unfortunately selling and will no longer be a restaurant.”

The restaurant specializes in its namesake: rice burgers, which are handhelds that replace the traditional hamburger bun with two circles of rice.
On its website, the restaurant shared that rice burgers first originated in Japan.
“After its introduction, it exploded in popularity across Asia as an alternative to traditional hamburgers.”
On the menu, you could find a variety of these burger creations with fillings including chicken katsu, beef yakiniku (the restaurant’s take on a beef teriyaki burger), curry croquette, spam musubi, prawn tempura, and much more.
“It has been a wild ride and [we] have cherished all of the dedicated customers that have kept us in business all these years,” added the restaurant in its closure announcement.

Many took to the comments of the post to share how much they would miss the restaurant.
“Devastating news, catered my 16th birthday rice burger will be missed,” said one user.
“Congrats on a great run brother. You did your thing and we are all proud of you! Onto the next chapter,” said another.
“The best in the business pal. Great work over the years. You guys will be missed,” said a third.
Folks wanting to stop by for one more meal can visit Rice Burger before it closes on Feb. 18.
