Surrey SkyTrain construction prompts busy highway closures

Construction on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension is continuing this spring, and drivers and commuters are being warned of some traffic disruptions in April.
The Government of BC announced that a section of Highway 15 south of Fraser Highway will be closed for four consecutive nights, from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m., from Tuesday, April 14 to Friday, April 17, 2026.
The closures are to support guideway work over Highway 15, also known as the Pacific Highway.

“A full road closure is required to safely lift and install steel beams (box girders) above the road,” said Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project in a public alert.
“This work will take place overnight to minimize impacts on traffic during peak periods.”
Several traffic pattern changes will be in effect from April 14 to 17 in the work area. They include:
- Overnight road closure of Highway 15 between Fraser Highway and 64 Avenue from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m.
- Residential and business access only on Highway 15 north of 64 Avenue.
- Regular traffic detour: 168 Street and 184 Street
- Truck detour: Highway 10 and Fraser Highway

Traffic control personnel will be on site to help residents and businesses gain access in and out of the closure area. Single lane traffic in each direction on Fraser Highway across Highway 15 will also be maintained.
Drivers and commuters are also warned that they can expect delays while in the area.
“There will be turn restrictions in effect 24/7 from April 7 to 25, 2026, to accommodate construction equipment,” added Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project.
“No right turns from Fraser Highway eastbound to Highway 15 southbound, (and) no right turns from Highway 15 northbound to Fraser Highway eastbound.”
From early April until December 2025, Fraser Highway between 140th Street and 96th Avenue was closed to facilitate uninterrupted construction of Green Timbers Station on the Expo Line’s Surrey–Langley SkyTrain extension.

There is highly visible construction progress along the route between the existing King George Station and the future Langley City Centre Station terminus. Structural columns supporting the elevated guideway and stations have popped up, and all four special gantry crane machines have been launched to install thousands of pre-fabricated concrete guideway segments.
If all goes as planned, elevated guideway construction will reach completion in mid-2027, and station construction and related work will finish in late 2028. Railway tracks and electrical and automated train control systems installation will begin in Spring 2026 and end in late 2028. Full system testing and commissioning will begin in late 2026 in preparation for the late 2029 opening.
Along the elongated Expo Line, a one-train ride between Langley City Centre Station and Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver will be 65 minutes, while the trip between Langley City Centre Station and King George Station will be 22 minutes.
