Hit TV series is filming its new spinoff in Vancouver this month

It’s a busy time of year for Hollywood North as production on TV series and movies begins to ramp up, and an exciting new show may soon be setting up in a Vancouver film location near you.
The Rookie: North, the latest spinoff of the Nathan Fillion hit series, is scheduled to begin filming in Metro Vancouver starting on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Star Jay Ellis recently confirmed the news that the show was heading to pilot on his Instagram, thanking executive producers Alexi Hawley and Fillion for the opportunity.

“Yes, I’m the newest officer. No, I still don’t know where my locker is,” wrote Ellis on social media.
“And also does anyone know where I can get bulk ice for my soon to be daily ice bath for my knees and back?”
The Rookie: North tells the tale of Alex Holland (Ellis), who joins the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie after experiencing a violent home invasion.
Vancouver and B.C. will be standing in for Washington State, which is the setting of the ABC pilot.

The show’s plot is similar to The Rookie, which is based on a real-life LAPD officer who moved to Los Angeles and joined the police department in his mid-40s after being caught up in a bank robbery.
The Rookie saw some of its highest ratings in 2025, sitting 10th in viewership rank. It is currently airing its eighth season.
Fillion, who fans also love from his work in Castle, Firefly, and Superman, shared a welcome message to Ellis in advance of filming starting in February.
“…and the Rookie-verse grows. Welcome, Mr. Ellis! You’re gonna love this ride!”
