The Vancouver forecast for April is out, and you may want to keep a warm sweater nearby throughout the new month.

According to Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) meteorologist Matt Loney, while Vancouver may see some big temperature swings the first week of April, things may start feeling chillier than normal soon.

“The three main global weather systems we look at are Canadian, American, and European. All of them are showing a cool and dry signal for April,” explained Loney.

“The temperature is expected to be below normal for much of western Canada and Vancouver.”

The news comes just days after several daily cold-weather records were broken in B.C., including one that’s over 120 years old.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather summary page, a cold weather record previously established on March 30, 1905, was recently broken in Tofino.

The previous record, which stood for 121 years, was a temperature of -2.2˚C. Yesterday, the temperature in Tofino hit -3.2˚C, a full degree colder than in 1905. Tofino records have been kept since 1896.

“Temperatures are ascending as we move towards summer, but predictive models are predicting lower than normal,” added Loney.

“No major systems are being forecast as of yet, but things are kind of convoluted for predictability.”
